Major Loss reflects on BIBA Conference 2026

BIBA Conference 2026 gave Major Loss a valuable opportunity to connect with brokers, insurers, suppliers and insurance professionals from across the UK.

Across the two days, the event brought together a wide range of voices from the insurance sector. It created space for useful conversations around risk, resilience, claims handling and the changing needs of policyholders.

For Major Loss, it was a strong reminder of how complex the claims landscape has become. Businesses now face a wider mix of risks than ever before, from physical property damage and business interruption to cyber incidents that can affect operations, income and reputation.

Key themes from BIBA Conference 2026

This year’s BIBA theme, “Time:To”, encouraged the industry to look at what needs attention now and what must be prepared for next.

That message felt clear across many of the conversations we had. Brokers and insurance professionals are supporting clients through a market where risks are shifting, claims can be more technical, and policyholders often need clear guidance when something goes wrong.

For commercial clients in particular, major losses can place pressure on every part of a business. Damage to premises, loss of stock, machinery breakdown, business interruption and cyber-related disruption can all create serious financial and operational strain.

Major Loss was pleased to speak with so many people about how expert claims support can help policyholders through these situations.

Cyber insurance is becoming more important

One of the most notable topics discussed at BIBA was cyber insurance.

Cyber risk is now part of daily life for many businesses. As more companies rely on digital systems, online payments, cloud platforms, connected devices and remote access, the potential impact of a cyber incident has grown.

For businesses, a cyber event can cause far more than a short IT problem. It can lead to operational downtime, lost income, reputational damage, data concerns, supplier issues and customer disruption.

This makes cyber insurance an increasingly important part of risk planning.

It also means cyber insurance claims need careful handling. Policyholders may need to prove the cause of loss, show the financial impact, evidence business interruption, and deal with technical reporting requirements. For many businesses, this can be difficult to manage while also trying to keep trading.

Supporting cyber insurance claims

Major Loss can support policyholders with cyber insurance claims, helping them understand the claim process and present their losses clearly.

Where a cyber incident leads to financial loss, operational disruption or a wider business interruption claim, it is important that the impact is assessed in detail. This may include reviewing lost revenue, increased costs, recovery periods, system downtime and the wider effect on business performance.

Our role is to help policyholders manage the process, prepare the evidence needed, and work towards a fair outcome under the terms of their policy.

Cyber claims can be technical and time-sensitive. Clear documentation, early action and a strong understanding of the policy position can make a real difference to how the claim progresses.

Complex claims need specialist support

The conversations we had at BIBA showed that many brokers are looking for trusted support when claims become too large, complex or time-consuming to manage alongside their day-to-day client work.

Major Loss works with policyholders dealing with large and complex insurance claims. This can include:

  • Business interruption claims
  • Loss of rent or loss of earnings claims
  • Machinery, contents and stock claims
  • Cyber insurance claims
  • Claims involving technical disputes, delays or under-settlement concerns

For brokers, referring a client to Major Loss can help reduce pressure on internal teams while supporting better outcomes for the policyholder.

For businesses, it means having a dedicated claims specialist focused on managing the process, gathering the right evidence and helping the claim move forward.

Thank you to everyone who spoke with us

We enjoyed attending BIBA Conference 2026 and appreciated the chance to speak with professionals from across the insurance industry.

The event gave us valuable insight into the issues brokers and their clients are facing, especially around business interruption, emerging risks and the growing importance of cyber insurance.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with the Major Loss team. We look forward to continuing those conversations and supporting businesses with the complex claims that matter most to them.
